Shenzhen Center for Design (“Design Center” for short) is a public non-profit organization operating in a relatively independent way from its initiator Urban Planning, Land & Resources Commission of Shenzhen Municipality. In December 2010, Design Center incorporate into Shenzhen Center for Public Art to fulfill the responsibility of “promoting innovation in urban design”. As an exploration effort on the reform of public institutions, Design Center has been committed to integrating government, corporate and design resources and to improving the status quo in a creative way. In its line of work, the Center is responsible for analyzing and diagnosing urban problems, encouraging public participation in urban design, setting up a library of design ideas on Shenzhen’s urban system, and providing services such as design exchanges, competitions, researches and publicity, so as to facilitate the overall improvement of urban space design and the development of the design industry.
