With its distinctive natural and cultural resources, Xiasha Strip has become one of the four featured tourist sites in Dapeng New District characterized by a “3 cities, 4 districts, 5 towns” structure. The strip is also incorporated in Dapeng New District's plan to be built into an integrated high-profile seaside resort featuring seas and mountains and into a demonstration area of sustainable development. The strip covers a total area of 150.3 hectares, with building land of 64.5 hectares and non-building land (including woodlands, green areas and beaches) of 85.8 hectares. The total planned floor area is 617,000 square meters (attachment: Xiasha Strip's statutory plan).

To ensure the integration and quality of the construction of the strip, the Dapeng New District government plans to select a design organization through international competition to implement the tasks of the Xiasha Strip Detailed Blue Print and Urban Design. It is expected that on the basis of the statutory plan, the functions and layout of the land used are well specified and refined. It is also expected that with an international perspective and creativity, the strip will be shaped into a unique coastal city.  A farsighted, feasible and easy-to-operate urban design proposal is expected to be provided for the strip, promoting it to become a start-up and demonstration project of Dapeng New District's development scheme of a “World Coastal Tourist Resort”.

This competition opens to the public without qualification requirements. However, individual applicants or teams of individuals will not be accepted. Expert jury will review the applicants and select three best design institutions or joint design groups as invited groups, each of which will receive an allowance of RMB500,000. Non-invited design organizations are also welcome to join, with the prospect of winning the prize money, and will be treated equally at the review process. We welcome the participation of planning and design institutions home and abroad.

The design institution that wins the first place will be entrusted with the execution of the project with a contract price of RMB 2.6 million; the second place will win a prize money of RMB 400,000; the third will win RMB 300,000.
