[Fenghuang Ancient Village] Project of Fenghuang Cultural Tourist Village, Bao'an District
September 05, 2017 19:25Nestling at the foot of Fenghuang Mountain in Fuyong Street, Bao’an District, Shenzhen, Fenghuang Ancient Village boasts a history of over 700 years and is the place where descendants of Wen Tianxiang, a national hero in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), live and thrive. There are more than 60 well-preserved residential buildings remaining from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which are valuable and rich in historical and cultural significance. However, during the process of integrating into the overall development of Shenzhen, great challenges emerge, threatening the Village’s traditional architecture style and its historical and cultural environment. Inspired by the concept of “Culture+ Tourism+ New Urbanization” in Overseas Chinese Town (OCT) and adhering to the principles of shared benefits and win-win cooperation, OCT and Bao’an District Government signed a cooperation framework agreement to develop and operate Fenghuang Cultural Tourist Village, a 6 km2 area centering Fenghuang Ancient Village. Therefore, Shenzhen Center for Public Art was invited by OCT to jointly explore the development and operation model of Fenghuang Cultural Tourist Village, to solve the problems of high-density in built-up areas, to activate its historical and cultural characteristics, and to integrate high-quality resources, so as to improve the environment and unleash the development potential.

September 05, 2017 19:23On May 19th, Yu Xin’guo, the Party Secretary of Longhua District Committee, proposed to further build a version 3.0 of “Double Improvement” of city management and construction in 2017 based on that of 2016. To implement the above-mentioned spirit, the business training course on quality improvement of urban construction of Longhua District is opened. By inviting urban design masters to give lectures, the course focuses on cultivating a grassroots urban construction team in line with the position of the city and tries to equipe them with professional knowledge and thinking as well as enhance their spirit and broaden their horizon.

December 19, 2016 22:06The research cluster workshop of Shenzhen construction project has put in enormous efforts, including field investigation, project start-up session, idea exchange session, conceptual scheme review session, seminar on overall planning and design. Meanwhile, the needs of all concerned parties have been collected through widespread participation. Based on the planning and construction design formulated by Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen Center for Design has proposed a conceptual design scheme and summarizes the following principles as guidance for tendering and bidding.

December 19, 2016 19:17On August 18th, 2016, the field investigation of the research cluster on Shenzhen Campus construction project took place in Guangming New District. Xia Huali from the Administrative Bureau of Commission for City Planning and Land Resources Management gave a brief on-the-spot introduction to the project, and answered questions such as the limits of the land plots development range, status quo of the land resources, roads and transportation planning on the land plots.

December 19, 2016 18:50On August 31st, a review session of conceptual schemes of the design and construction of Shenzhen Campus, Sun Yat-sen University(SYSU) was held in the Swasey Hall in the southern campus of SYSU , which brought together more than 500 distinguished guests including experts, scholars and designers from Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality, Commission for City Planning and Land Resources Management, Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen Public Art Center and the construction planning sector. This brilliant panel has contributed insightful suggestions to this project.
[Public Space] Research on the Public Space Signage System of Shenzhen Urban Renewal Unit (Collection)
November 28, 2016 23:16As “urbanization” progresses rapidly, Shenzhen have to conduct the urban renewal projects in a large area and at a fast speed. Many construction projects have to go through the whole process from project approval, planning and design to construction in a short period of time. Yet, the signage system is more often than not overlooked during that process due to a lack of enough attention. In July 2015, Urban Planning, Land & Resources Commission of Shenzhen Municipality initiated the project Research on the Public Space Signage Management in Shenzhen Urban Renewal Unit. Its main aim is to sort out relevant studies and condition of utilization of existing public space of urban renewal unit. By considering problems in current signage system and integrating advanced ideas on public space signage management at home and abroad, the Commission compiles systematic research reports to guide public space management in urban renewal unit. The Research mainly aims to define different classification criteria for public spaces in urban renewal units and to guide the application of public space signs in urban renewal projects, according to reasonable public regulations and provisions. At the same time, the research tends to guide the public to use public space through discernible signs and sensible space planning and design.
[Public Space] How to Build Distinctiveness and Brand of Public Space in Shenzhen?
November 28, 2016 22:55The current signage system of public space in Shenzhen is facing problems such as a lack of unity and systematicness, a scarcity of guidance, and the absence of distinctiveness. Therefore, a new mechanism is urgently needed. To come up with more suggestions and opinions, on September 8, 2015, a brainstorming workshop titled “How to Build Distinctiveness and Brand of Public Space” was held at Shenzhen Sculpture Academy (Shenzhen Center for Public Art). Participants actively exchanged views and reached consensus on border patterns, colors and logo design. With renewal units as pilot areas, we hope to gradually improve design of signage as well as the understanding of standardization of pavement and border patterns in public space.
